TUBES: Are these legit and safe for a DR103?
I want to grab some tubes for my DR103 and have decided to go NOS so I don't have to mod my amp with the Bias circuit. I have also been thinking of running it at 50w with two output tubes, mostly in order to save on tubes. Would these be good for a vintage Hiwatt as far as durability goes? http://ww...

Re: Are all Hiwatt cabs ported?
Yep my SE4129 is rear ported along the bottom.
It played havoc with my sound until I realised as I had it sitting against a concerete wall. The acoustics were weird until I moved it away a little.

Re: Buzz/Fizz from any overdrive
I took it over to a friends yesterday and tried the cab with his head and my head with his cab. Both times it sounded great. I then plugged the DR103 into the Hiwatt cab and put the normal channel on 9 and the MV on 2.5ish. Hit a chord and it sounded amazing, everything a cranked Hiwatt should sound...

Re: Buzz/Fizz from any overdrive
After speaking with the previous owner we think it may be the speakers. The cab has been in storage for 12 years so the speakers may be stuffed. I'm going to try another cab tomorrow so I'll report back.

Buzz/Fizz from any overdrive
Hi guys, Last week I got a 1978 Hiwatt DR103 2 Input and a 1977 SE4129 Cab with Fane 122667 speakers. When I tried it out before buying I only played it clean as I live in an apartment and it was 9pm. It sounded fantastic and really quiet so I went with it. A few days later I cranked the normal and ...

Re: Introduce yourself
I'm actually angling to get a quad of strong tested Mullard EL34 XF2s. The tubes in it at the moment seem to be a mix. There's 1 Groove Tubes, 1 National from Germany, 1 only labelled EL34 Made in GBR and one totally blank. They sound great but have been in there for 23 years and the Groove Tube lab...

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi guys, My name's Matt and I hail from Melbourne, Australia. Tomorrow night I finally achieve my musical goal and take possession of a 1978 Hiwatt DR103 with a 1977 Fane loaded 4x12. I was tossing up between a Marshall JTM45/100 40th Anniversary Full Stack and the DR103 however three things swayed ...
