Re: Request: Front-ported cab - Front panel cross-brace size

You don't happen to have any rear shots, do you? I'd like to mirror the construction as closely as possible, so I'm itching to see what kind of joints they used. No, sorry :( . The joints are simple butt joints, stapled together. Going from memory, I think the vertical center support was one piece ...

Re: Request: Front-ported cab - Front panel cross-brace size

Are you referring to cross bracing for the baffle or the grill panel? If the latter, it's a fairly simple construction. I don't have access to my front-loaded cab at the moment, but would guess all pieces are about 1 1/2" wide, being made from 1/2" ply. The edges are braced at midpoints. ...

Request: Front-ported cab - Front panel cross-brace size

Hello all. I'm trying to restore a particularly battered front ported SE4122. It originally came with a grab-bag of celestions and a non-original front panel covered in some cheap plastic grill cloth. Yesterday, I scored a $250 LA412 with fanes, so I'm planning to rehome the speakers and purloin the...

Re: Darkside indeed

Ahhhhh Music Ground. Interesting... From the ad: We have just supplied several of these cabinets to Keith Urban ... Marine Plywood & Particle Board Construction In the news: Urban, like most major country music stars based in Nashville, keeps his music equipment at the storage facility Soundchec...

It sounds absolutely GODLY now. It's also much, much louder than it was with the PPIMV installed.

I'm a happy bunny. :D

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

Well, I don't have my camera with me and it's 1:30am here, so no photos yet, but I just wanted to say I've just finished reverting the preamp section back to stock. That silicone stuff is the bane of my existence. Seriously, the stuff was practically impossible to remove on the turrets. Annoyingly, ...

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

Well, I'll be attempting the de-mod in a few days' time. I'll do some photographic documentation of the process; I guess that people who wish to add a PPIMV could logically follow the reverse procedure to obtain the desired result. I also tried to remove some of that horrible silicone stuff. It's an...

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

Ahh. Actually I just spotted a capacitor difference. The V1A / V3A plate coupling capacitors are 33uf, but "stock" is 22uf according to schematics. Post-factory mod, perhaps? good catch, that solder joints don't look very good with that cap either. I doubt its originality. Other than that...

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

I'd like to see the other end of the big turret board and the surrounding area. --mark Hi Mark. You mean the end nearest the inputs or the master volume end? Here you can see the photos taken by the guy who sold it to me including some photos of each board: http://photos.yahoo.co.jp/ph/jill_sherbet...

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

Thanks so much guys. You've been a great help thus far. Regarding the "clean" nature of the amp, at present if I play my guitar (HB pickups) with a fair amount of viciousness, the amp will begin to break up at about 11 o'clock on the normal channel volume control. By 1 o'clock, it becomes ...

Re: Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

I guess in a way the mods are a good thing in that I paid a good chunk less than market value. Over here in Japan, Hiwatts go for stupid money if they become available. There are so many hi-fi audiophiles over here that nearly all the hiwatts I have seen have been cannibalised for the Partridge tran...

Reverting a modded 73 DR-103 back to stock. Help please!

Hello there! This is my first post from sunny Tokyo. I will begin by making a disclaimer that I've only ever done a recap and a tonestack mod on an amp before, so I'm a bit green around the gills in regards to big alterations. Anyway! I've just purchased a 73 Hylight DR-103, but the previous owner h...
