Re: Idiotic question about fuses

Re: Idiotic question about fuses
Ok so it seems the mystery has been solved. Automotive fast fuses wont cut it. I bought 1.5 and 3 slo blo fuses and its been running for 2 hours no problem. I have played it with the volume on kill shook the head banged it around and no popping.

Re: Idiotic question about fuses
After some abuse I have all new ceramic style tube sockets sitting in my desk but I have been waiting to see what happens. I like these ceramic ones better because the clips inside are not like the typical but completely wrap around the tube pin and easy to adjust and there is no bakelite to wear out.

Idiotic question about fuses
My 103 is eating mains fuses. I have retensioned the tube sockets so they are brutally tight but im popping fuses. I did notice however that the mains fuses I have are only 250 v @ 6amps, they should be 400, yes? and would it make that much difference? ![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

Re: A ridiculous question about volume
I dont play long at these levels in my house and in the studio i have some isolating monitors that are about as numbing as the ones i shoot with. Im mostly looking to expand my sound make it biger. My ultimate goa would be 2 103's one tbrough the 4 and the other through the 2 but that is a ways off.

A ridiculous question about volume
I have a vhr 2x12 and now I really want a 4x12 but occurred to me that there would be a substantial boost in volume, or is this a myth? For example in my practice room with my 103 Im running the pre's at about 2 oclock and the master at about 11 oclock, then my pedals are running just slightly above...

The layout of that thing is interesting for sure. Congrats Dave, do you need to relive yourself of any other Hiwatts with higher numbers to accommodate? ![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)

Re: Buying Guidance Please!
Welp, I checked it out. It sounded decent, it had some funky things going on, I made an offer, but he didn't want to sell it for my offer. I decided I'd hold out for a more complete Hiwatt. How about this one? What should I offer? This one looks quite nice! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...

Re: caps under the turrets
Ok cap job is finished. My buddy who used to service amps for a company in mass straightened it all out. His desolder method was interesting. He lined everything heated up the solder and gave em a shot of air on the posts, he used desolder mat for the turrets. He does awesome work and is meticulous....

Re: caps under the turrets
I dont haveany copper braid suck the solder and used my desolder tool for the other caps. Just those last 2 especially with that straight jumper between them. Im pushing the limits of my general abilities for repair. Lol
