no difference between the old stuff and that used by HI-TONE. can't speak for the new stuff that uses the hiwatt name.

Re: Need help identifying vintage Fane with metal dust cap.
the blue label is the standard fane label, they put on dozens of different speakers.
the cast frame was used on dozens of different speakers as well.
Fane made speakers for anyone and everyone. if you have the model number, I can probably tell you who it was made for.

Re: loss of volume when linked input
That tone stack is not the classic 1971-1974 tone stack. but I don't see a clear problem.
maybe Mark will see something?

Re: Best current production KT-88 ?
I tried the 120s about 4-5 years ago and they failed quickly. The most rugged new production Kt88s in my experience are burned in and matched JJ's from Amplified parts or Eurotubes or the TAD chinese made tubes. I have used several quads of each. I used to use the new gold lion (EH-russian) KT88, an...

Hi,
definitely not want you want for DG tones.
That is not an "A". unless it has been reconed with the wrong cone and dust cap.
I would not pay anything for that.

Re: 71 Dr103 1/2 stack...value question.
$2500 is a good deal for the head alone if its original.
I NEVER buy old HIWATTs without seeing detailed pics of the internals.
a single old 4x12 will not live long if you crank up the DR103. Been there.......sadly killed several old Fane speakers.

Re: Best current tubes for early '70s DR-103?
TADs do sound good and are as reliable as any modern tubes.
Lots of 1972-1973 DR103's have insufficient bias voltage, you might look into Mark's Bias doubler.

Re: Strange PCB in DR-103
I am fairly confident that this amp in this current state was not made by HIWATT.
Much of the wiring and components are not original.
