Re: 1970 dr 103 HELP!
I have a 1970 one with the odd tonestack, but without the cathode follower. It sounds more 'Fenderish'.. a bit less mids than the usual Hiwatts. It's stays clean though, unless you really crank it!

Fane Crescendo 12 Bass
Hi, I got my hands on a nice Crescendo, not the 12A but the bass version. It sounded quite nice, but there's not much info on them. This one can handle 75w according to the label, but I've seen them in 100w and even 120w versions too. Anyone here to tell me more about this type of speaker? Pics: htt...

Bought two vintage Fanes
They are of the -spam- Range, Guitar 100L's, probably from the early eighties. Cost me 50 Euro ($65). They look a bit like Crescendo's. Does anyone have some more details on these? Anyone use them? I plan on using them with my Hiwatt DR103 amp. :) Pics: http://postimg.org/image/xxgprdvml/ http://pos...

Re: Fender Into Weber Crescendos?
Thanks, you're probably right about Gilmours approach. Would make sense.
Any idea how an EVM-12L would compare to a Crescendo? I'm using an Eminence delta pro 12a, which is sort of an EV clone, with my Hiwatt and it does sound nice.

Re: Fender Into Weber Crescendos?
not that shootout, but I have had several real Crescendos and a set of FC12's and they are not very similar. The FC12's didn't suck, but they were not very close to the real thing. Dr. Hiwatt, of all the currently available speakers you've tried, which one do you think comes closest to a Crescendo?

Re: Closest speaker to the Crescendo?
I suppose Pete Cornish or Bob Bradshaw may know, but why would he lie? It's not that he would lie about it, rather has it ever been confirmed by the man himself or someone close to him that he actually does use this type of speaker? I was just wondering because of the remarks by Dr. Hiwatt, who kno...

Re: Closest speaker to the Crescendo?
Who actually knows for sure if Gilmour used/uses Crescendo's? It's a rumour, but who except himself or his tech has ever seen the insides of his cabinets? Has he been quoted saying he uses crescendo speakers? Wem cabs didn't come with those speakers as far as I know. And if they did, who says he did...

Mid 1980's Crescendo's
Hi, can anyone tell me more about these speakers? Are they anything like the old Crescendo's and suitable for guitar use?
Thanks

Sorry to kick this one back up, but does anyone have some details on how the "blown fuse indicators" are wired?

Re: Matched set of tubes, bias questions
If the 47n PI caps are good, the 2x 100k bias and 4x 22k grid resistors are good, and the bias filtercap is good, can there be anything else faulty in the amp?
Perhaps the 82k/91k PI resistors or the transformer?
Or is it really just down to the tubes?

Re: Matched set of tubes, bias questions
Would this still qualify as a matched set of tubes?

Re: Matched set of tubes, bias questions
Hmm it might not be as bad as I thought.
The highest one measures 26mA, the lowest 21.3mA. I switched one pair around, and measurements follow the tubes. So it's probably the tubes themselves. Voltage on pin 5 is the same on all four.

Re: Matched set of tubes, bias questions
I'm not at home right now, but if I remember correctly, it's the outer 2 tubes that measure low, while the middle ones measure higher. Certainly each pair of 2 has one tube that measures lower than the other. I tried swapping the tubes around, but as I remember that did not make a difference. I'll c...
