Re: SE4123 with Fanes from '90, is it ok or not?
Welcome to the Vintage HIWATT forum. If you like the sound you are getting with the 1990's cab, then that is great. Is it very similar to a real Hylight era cab.......not very. I never had the opportunity to try an original old cab..nobody have one close to where I live... But from your words I und...

SE4123 with Fanes from '90, is it ok or not?
Hi everybody, I'm a studio player and I've got a 1974 Hiwatt DR103 that I would like to pair with the right cab to record..but it seems impossible to score a vintage cab here in Italy.. So I've found an Hiwatt SE4123 with Fanes from '90.. what do you guys think about this cab? It's a good replica of...

Re: Fane 122229
Hi Dave, since I don't know how to upload the pics here (sorry...) I've just PM them to you. Ah, there they are!: IMG_2409.JPG IMG_2410.JPG As I mentioned in PM, those were not particularly valuable models when in original condition - at least not for guitar usage. Finding someone to properly recon...

Re: Fane 122229
As I recall, 122229 have 17,000 gauss magnets (same as the 122142's) and whizzer cones. Originally intended for PA or Organ use, the extended high end is rarely desirable for guitar. Can you post pics to confirm or deny the above? Dave Hi Dave, since I don't know how to upload the pics here (sorry....

Fane 122229
Hi,
I've found a quartet of Fanes 122229 for sale, can anybody tell me the difference between this model compared to the 122231/122142?
Thx
Foster

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
Do you think that should be better to found an 122231 Fanes loaded cab to try instead of the 122142 one?..ore the 122231 are just similiar to the 122190? To my ears: The 122231 (found in the earlier SE4123 "LEAD" cabs) has a great, complex, "woody" midrange quality. Plenty of ba...

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
but for guitar, expecially for recording, between an SE4122 and an SE4123, which one should you choose? and why? As Dr.Hiwatt said, there are no wrong answers :) . You'll need to try them and determine which is better for YOU. I've always leaned toward "bassier" speakers (55Hz Celestions,...

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
an SE4122 with 122142 Fanes aqre excellent for guitar, they are better for bass than an SE4123 with 122231 Fanes. Either HIWATT cab will be a better match for your DR103 than the SC cab. But everyones ears are different and speakers can be like ice cream. there are lots of good flavors, only you ca...

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
I also have the possibility to buy an old Hiwatt cab with 122142 Fanes...what I would expect from them in terms of tone, and in terms of difference compared to the 122190 Fanes of my Sound City cab? Haven't run that combination side-by-side, but I'd expect the 122142 cab to be a touch less "wo...

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
Big, Fat and Punchy!!! Even Clean or Overdriven.. And without the annoying sizzle of all the Celestions!!! Good way to phrase that! Checking the wiring of a used cab is a lesson I learned awhile back. I my case, it was an "M" cab with 55Hz Celestion blackbacks that just sounded horribly t...

Re: Hylight Hiwatt Fanes VS Sound City Fanes
Anyway, in the morning I decided to tried the cab in the studio, miked with an sm57, and the tone was good but not too exciting.. so I had the idea to take a look at the wirings and I unmouted just one speaker, the wirings was made of a very thin cable and the solders on the speakers appeared not so...

Re: Sound City Fanes vs Hiwatt Fanes
Hi Dave,
the front side looks exactly the same, but rear the magnet seems not so big..and thy don't have any label over the magnet.. only a label on the cast frame of each one
If you PM an email address I can send you the pics so maybe YOU can post them..
Thx

Re: Sound City Fanes vs Hiwatt Fanes
I'm sorry but I'm not able to post pics here...maybe 'cause I'm using a Mac? Anyway Yes. the ports appear to be original, and the gasket and cone codes are as follows: Top left speaker: Gasket: 35/72. Cone: 1021 11. Top right speaker: Gasket: 36/72. Cone: 1021 11. Bottom left speaker: Gasket: 35/72....
