Re: Bass cabs!

They of course look great. Are they the same footprint as the 4x12's?

Microphonic Noise DR201

I have a Dr201, el34 version. I had suspected that a preamp tube had become microphonic to the point of ringing out. I identified the V1 tube and swapped it out. The new tube in V1 was ringing. Then to confirm the tubes issue i put the old 'suspect' tube in v2 were it was nice and quiet. So, I am le...

Re: WTB: Hiwatt DR201

I might be putting mine on the block. There will be some serious A/B testing this weekend to see if I could live without it. sigh..... I hate needing money.

Dr201s and an SA412 getting nice coin.

Since one of these has sold already I figured I would post the links here for your drooling pleasure. Now I know the 200s always demand some serious money, but the KT88 seem to be recession proof. example 1 - $3200? http://www.ebay.com/itm/74-Hylight-Hiwatt-DR201-Amplifier-/251010985102?pt=LH_Defaul...

DR201 / STA200 / SE4123 bass wesite

Gents... A bass site I check from time to time had a couple of new items in their used/vintage amp section. Check pages 2 and 3. I called them today and Kyle informed me that the Dr201 was a el34 model. I know that these are popping up less and less so I wanted to make sure the fine people of this f...

Re: Just Found DR201!!!

Okay, I have finally had a moment to sit and take real look at what is going on inside this amp. Yes, the AC was cut to the bulgin plug. However, it looks like the ground wire from the new cord was tied to the ground in the bundle coming from the bulgin. As I see it, unless that grounds somewhere I ...

Re: Just Found DR201!!!

Thank you both very much for the reply. The amp seems to be in good enough shape to be brought back to full potential. This is the first tube amp that I have liked the sound of for bass. I am sure it will need new tubes. Any suggestions? I know this can be tricky with the fixed biasing. Other than t...

Just Found DR201!!!

I had posted the should I... thread about a week ago fishing for info as Hiwatts are still new to my possession. I am pleased to report, they are no longer. Here it is. Please help me figure out the red flags, concerns etc. The stats as I see them (please correct me I am still learning this beast.) ...

Re: Should I....

Bossco... I think that I am in your camp on this one. I have found that out over time about the 10's. I have a epifani 3x10 cabinet that has served me well for about 7 years now as my stand alone cabinet. I liked this company because of the warmth/clarity balance they have. Also this cab at 750w rat...

Re: Should I....

I don't mind the idea of less punch, especially since I am coming over from the solid state world. The information I am going off of about the el36 I deduced from this catalog page. I would be surprised if they had el34 in the 103 and el36 in the 201. What sense would that make. If any crew group co...

Should I....

Gentlemen, I am a bassist and somewhat new to the HiWatt world. I have traditionally been a solid state player and could never get behind the SVT. It just wasn't my sound. I was always more of a John Paul Jones, Motown, rolled off tone knob kinda guy. But the tube bug is upon me and I have a chance ...
