Re: Ideas for the 2008 Convention "Hands On" activitie
I have an idea for a hands on activity - how about giving some tips while making a build? I, like quite a few others, am a new builder. I have only done mods on various amps and various minor rehabs, but I've never built an amp from scratch. I think something like this would really be helpful and interesting and might help sell more kits even.
Thanks,
-Mike

Thanks for the input Mike!
Maybe we can do something like that????? I could possibly have a couple amps in various stages of production and do a couple quick steps to each..........somewhat like a cooking TV show????
These DIY builds just aren't a 1-2 hour process.........You could spend the weekend building one.
While I wouldn't mind selling more kits, the Focus of the Convention is the Hylight Electronics Equipment and the legacy of Dave Reeves.
It is a good idea, I will have to spend some time thinking it out!

We really, really need Chef Huss to do a presentation. I think a "pyromaniac intervention" is in order!Dr.HIWATT wrote:somewhat like a cooking TV show????
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing

Glad you like the idea, Clayton! Thanks for considering it. Yah - just like a cooking show I think just running through a circuit and pointing out details when building, and indeed, saving some stages for building at the convention would be great, even just soldering tips would be helpful and appreciated. Maybe various experienced builders could give insights and experience during the demonstration...Dr.HIWATT wrote:Thanks for the input Mike!

I still need some ideas for hands on activities!
Things that can only take 1-2 hours tops.
I hope to make this fun and mildly educational, while keeping it from turning into Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon

Yea, gather up a bunch of those old ones in England and bring them to Indiana for the competition. I'll be in charge of hauling off those old junkers when we're through.

Even better, how about a "plastic Asian Bulldog Hiwatt" chucking contest. That wouldn't cost much and might be weirdly satisfying.
