"GUYS I MET ON THE INTERNET"...
Let's just say it was “interesting” crossing into Canada yesterday, on my way to meet up with fellow forumite JC103 to buy his empty Hylight 4x12:
Where are you coming from? Bremerton WA
Where are you going? Burnaby, to meet a friend from Winnipeg.
What’s your friend’s name? Jarrett. Jarrett Cole.
Why is he coming here from Winnipeg? I think he’s visiting some friends.
How long have you known him? I haven’t actually met him, I KNOW HIM THROUGH THE INTERNET
So the border agent scribbled “INTERNET” in the "observations" section of my form and told me I had to park and go inside. There I had to wait, then explain the whole thing again. More waiting while they apparently checked my documents, then I was allowed to enter. Not quite as bad crossing back into the US, but I did have to explain again who it was I met and why...
I think I got less scrutiny passing through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin back in '84!
It was worth "running the gauntlet" - there's an actual piece of Hylight history in my rig now!

What, do you look like a terrorist? Or did the immigration profiler nab you for being 'nervous and excited'?

Should have said you were just going to buy some Molsons !
Glad to hear you finally got your empty HIWATT cab. Was it worth the body cavity search ?

Fortunately it didn't come to that!OldSchoolDave wrote:Glad to hear you finally got your empty HIWATT cab. Was it worth the body cavity search ?
Yes, the cab (SE4123 #6494) is in excellent condition, especially for a '75. Original basketweave tolex and S&P cloth. I loaded it up last night, but I think I mis-wired something because it seemed to lack the big bottom end thumpage of my 2x12. Or maybe I'm losing my marbles.
Speaking of losing things, I think working around those magnets caused my watch to lose 5 minutes and I missed my ferry this morning!

Yeah, check the wiring. I once bought a Marshall 1982 cab (55Hz blackback Celestions) that sounded incredibly thin. Turned out, the upper pair of speakers were wired out of phase from the lower pair .mikhailwatt wrote:I loaded it up last night, but I think I mis-wired something because it seemed to lack the big bottom end thumpage of my 2x12. That reminds me of the days when I used to slip my wallet in the back of my Twin Reverb during sets. Couldn't figure out why my credit cards' magnetic strips kept "wearing out". Guess the JBL's were degaussing them .mikhailwatt wrote:Speaking of losing things, I think working around those magnets caused my watch to lose 5 minutes and I missed my ferry this morning!

So you're saying that guitar amps can literally be a drain on the wallet?OldSchoolDave wrote:That reminds me of the days when I used to slip my wallet in the back of my Twin Reverb during sets. At first I did have the Fane out of phase with the rest, and I fixed that. I think my perception was off due to sleep deprivation - it sounds better today. Still seems a little brighter than before, but that's probably the 3 Thames ganging up on the old Fane, and I probably need to adjust the treble bleed resistor/cap on my guitar due to a recent pickup change... it gets brighter now with the volume rolled down.
