I may buy a 2x12 cab with FANE Carlsbro Powertone 75W. Are they good ones ?

Hi Fabien,

The link you posted wants a password to view. Can you post pics into a reply here?

We don't see a lot of Carlsbro stuff in the U.S.. I would expect any Fanes made for Carlsbro would be worth trying. Just don't know how similar they might be to Hiwatt Fanes.

Any model and cone codes you find could be helpful.

I can SEE :D !

The frames look similar to late 70's Hiwatt Fanes and they have large magnets (a good thing, for power handling). Keep trying to get the model and cone codes. Those speakers are definitely worth investigating!

Hi Dave & Everybody,

I put new pics on the picasaweb link below... Could you please look at them for me ?

I can choose between 2 FANE Carlsbro from '79 (manufacturing code is hard to read, I ask for it this morning to the seller) AND / OR 2 FANE Classics from '80 (if I'm right)...

I ask also for cones pics.

Are the FANE Classics also good speakers ?

Many thanks in advance,
Fabien

I don't know. Haven't seen those before. From the model number, I'm assuming a 100 watt power rating. The only Fane guitar speakers I've heard less-than-stellar reports about are their "POP" series.

Can you get a closeup pic of the codes stamped on the frames of the Carlsbro Fanes? At the moment, I would lean toward those (provided there wasn't a huge price difference).

Hi Dave,

Thank you once more for all the information ! :D :D :D

I updated the pics on the Picasaweb album... The serial number says : "122785" if I'm right... The guy said that there was no cone code painted on the cone. He told me he called FANE and was told that there was no cone info unless the cone was replaced ?!

Thanks again for your help

At least one of those statements is incorrect :( ...

Cone codes can sometimes be way up toward the voice coil and difficult to see. Every Fane I own has a code - reconed or otherwise. Recone codes might be hand-written in chalk or wax marker as opposed to stamped in ink. Sometimes, the stamping isn't the greatest and only a partial code exists - like this:

From the smeared ink stamp on the frame, the Carlsboro Fanes appear to be model 122785, built in the 51st week of 1979. While I don't know the specifications of that model, I would prefer them over the "Classics", unless they're priced considerably higher. The "Classics" look Medusa-like to me. Medusas can take a lot of power, but tend to sound darker. FWIW, both sets of cones appear original to the naked eye.
