Anyone use a non-Hiwatt cab?

Post by gtomax »

I have yet to join the fane filled Hiwatt cab ranks (1/2 way there, just missing the Fanes), but my 1977 DR103 2 holer sounds might fine through a Mojo 1960B loaded with scumback H75s! How bout you?

I don't have a Hiwatt cab(yet). I plug mine into an Avatar 2x12 or a Carvin 4x12.

For last year's Vintage Hiwatt Convention, I put a quad of Eminence Deltas (not Delta Pros) in a front-loaded HIWATT cab for use with my DR201. The Deltas took everything the 200 watter could put out. A bit darker sounding than Fanes - but no smoked speakers!

Before I was fortunate enough to find a couple of Fane-loaded cabs, I tried a Fender Showman 4x12 - first, with the factory Celestion G12T-75's (didn't care for them) and then with Hellatone 60L's (supposed to be "special" Vintage 30's that get the Hellatone thrashing). They sounded much better, but still not Fanes.

Althought the Hiwatt design has quickly become my favorite, I have a few Marshall bottoms. I the old Marshall bottoms are quite nice.
