Hylight custom 50 with DR103 serial plate??

Post by ak-47 »

Saw this on ebay, seller assures me it is original etc etc... But, has anyone ever seen a vintage custom 50 with model DR103 on the serial plate?? Or is this just a ghost in the machine...?

I have never seen one, but I suppose it could be legit.

I would have to have good internal pics before bidding.

The seller's facts are a bit off, as DR504's were made as early as 1968.

No, but my '73-ish DR201 has a DR103 serial plate - and is legit. So, mis-stamps are not unprecedented.

As Dr.Hiwatt said, internal pics are a must to support the claims of originality. Looks nice from the outside, though ;) .

Right, very interesting about your 201 Dave.. well I guess there was a lot of hard partying in the early 70's  Seriously though, I have seen serial plates that look to have been re-lettered or re-numbered yet still look to be original. Not to forget some mixed model designations that confirm the 'custom' tag such as on some AP, SAP and SWITCH models.. and then there are the cut-plates too I guess. Every day is a new one...

I noticed that too... I love the look of those really old ones! Didn't one of you guys pick up a really beautiful example recently?

Yes, internal pics are always a must and I must say I have never had much luck buying off ebay anyway...

I have had one for a few years, but Dave just got one in 2011.

I have a 71 DR103 that has "DR504103" on the serial plate with 504 struck out! I'm sure banging out and affixing the serial plates was one often dullest jobs in the place, and mistakes were made.
