Hiwatt DR103 1976 amp, Harry Joyce signed

Post by Hiwatthead61g »

I have a good example of a classic 1976 Hiwatt Custom DR103 with original Partridge transformers in good working order for sale. Recently serviced. It is signed and initialled by Hiwatt legend Harry Joyce in fading blue marker inside chasis. A reluctant sale (as my first real amp bought in '76) but not used much these days. £1450. I have left it with Portobello Music in London W.11 so can be viewed and tried out at the shop. Check out web site to see photos. http://www.portobellomusic.net 12 All Saints Rd London W.11 020 7221 4040.

Not so sure about calling it a 'harry joyce signature model' on the Portobello advert..

HJ's company wired lots of Hiwatts and as I understand, signed a lot of them so as to identify them for the invoicing and bookkeeping.. I am sure those more in the know will correct me if I am wrong, but I always understood the HJ signature to be a marking put there by HJ's people for the reason above, not neccessarily HJ personally signing off each amp.. Or was it?

Anyway, Dave Reeves was the true legend around these parts

Good luck with the sale

Thanks for the info. I agree "siganture model" is not quite correct but it certainly has his mark. I'm sad to see it go either way. As you say Dave Reeves was the main man! :D

Good luck with your sale. It appears to be a nice example.

No problem, as I said those more in the know will hopefully fill in the gaps

Anyway, that chassis does look clean enough to eat your dinner from it
