81 Hiwatt DR504

Post by high_numbers »

Hi Guys!

I'm a new member of the HIWATTconvention :D

Bought my first Hiwatt amp last week:

Album:

I'll use V30 speakers with it. I know it's not the best, but I'm looking for some fane speakers or at least similar ones :)

btw, does anyone knows how to bias this amplifier?

Looking forward to learn a lot with you all !

Cheers!

Welcome to the Vintage HIWATT Forum!
Despite the HYLIGHT electronics tag, it is a Biacrown as Dave Reeves left us in mid March 1981.

HI-TONE, when only the best will do.

Yet, it appears to have been made from Hylight inventory (i.e. still the good stuff).

@high_numbers: You're right, V30's are not the best match with a Hiwatt. Whereabouts on the planet are you located? Knowing that can make the choices more clear.

Dave

P.S. Yes, and Welcome!

I'm from Portugal, Europe :)

V30's would be a temporary choice. I pretend to update them if there's a good oportunity.

What do you think about two of these? I've heard they're a good match for Hiwatt..

I don't have an opinion, because I've never personally seen or heard those. Tayden speakers aren't common in the U.S.. I have read some positive reviews, but don't know how much faith to put in them.

If you decide to test them, please let us know your findings.

Dave

P.S. Wouldn't the 16 ohm versions be better for your Hiwatt than 8 ohm models?

That would also work.

When in doubt, I tend to stick with 16 ohm drivers.
