Hello everyone! Greeting from Down under!
New to the forum, i must say it has been an invaluable source of information and you all provide such a great service
This was a lucky find i must say (if a bit underserving! )
My old man brought it off a friend back when he was young for next to nothing, played it a little bit then it got put in his shed around the time i was born and it has sat there alone and unused untill about 8 years ago when we rediscovered it. I started playing music, and started doing the whole band thing so he gave it to me along with his cab (loaded with 2 15' Peavey Black Widow's) and i was the loudest amatuer around haha. I think with my age and both my father's and my lack of understanding we didnt really understand the gem we had and it got put back on the sidelines as i brought a new amp.
Fast forward to a month ago, having now matured alot on a musical level (i wouldnt say so much on a personal level!) i again unearthed the DR103 and did some research, promtly smacking myself in the head and calling the old man and telling him how foolish we had been! I plugged it in to my 4x12 cab (loaded with Vintage 30's) and it roared to life, it sounds nothing short of amazing! Needs retubing and no doubt other mantainance but it will now get the attention it deserves, whether by myself or im toying with the idea of letting it go to someone else as i dont really play live anymore and im in the process of opening my own music shop so thats taking up alot of my time.
I do have a few questions as it appears the power socket has been modded and i was wondering why that has been done as my father purchased it as it is. I think rather than explain it, ill take some photos and maybe could get some opinions/explainations?

Not sure why it was modified or if it was a common practise for DR 103's in Australia.
I dont suppose anyone knows?

Re: 1978 DR103 2 Input
Hello and welcome.
That is odd, as it appears someone replaced the standard IEC socket with the Cannon one. I can't think of any good reason someone would do this. I think I would change it back to IEC before selling it. I don't know anything about the Oz electrical code, but I'd be surprised if that connector still meets it.

Thanks Mark
Yeah i couldnt see any reason as to why it was replaced, seems weird to me and something i plan to rectify.
