quiz time! What is wrong with this?
This amp has several features or issues that just aren't right.
how many can you identify?

Re: quiz time! What is wrong with this?
Wild-arse guesses:
1. HJ-style wiring on a purportedly pre-HJ specimen
2. Varying date codes on pots or wrong housing size for the era (can't quite make out the codes, though)
3. Extra/wrong transformer mounting hole
4. Wrong chassis - extra preamp valve position for PA head
5. Wrong chassis plating for the era?
6. Something about the head case/vynide I can't quite pin down....
7. Seller is vintageampsuk
I think we've seen this one before - that superfluous xfmr mounting hole stirs a memory......

You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing

some good observations...
I'll let some others chime in before "grading the quiz answers"

actually the transformer mounting hole is accurate.
The chassis is from the 9xx-early 1xxx's, this version of the Hylight era chassis was used from the 9xx's through 4xxx's
I know this era chassis intimately

The serial number doesn't make sense, but otherwise it looks very similar to DR103 s/n 1097 - HJ style wiring, same board layout with both halves of V2 used, same head box, same chassis, offset s/n plate etc. What am I missing?

not much. You are spot on. From the viewpoint that this amp is from the serial # range 1000-1100, which I am confident, the only issue is that the serial number tag must be unoriginal to the amp.Alnico wrote:The serial number doesn't make sense, but otherwise it looks very similar to DR103 s/n 1097 - HJ style wiring, same board layout with both halves of V2 used, same head box, same chassis, offset s/n plate etc. What am I missing?
From the perspective that the amp actually is #5xx the list of problems is substantial.
