Hello,
i have a question about a guitar cabinet i bought years ago and now have a closer look on.
-It`s a 2 x 12" cabinet, in the front there`s a plate named: "maquis"
-Inside there are mounted Fane speakers, i have uploaded some photos on photobucket, maybe someone can tell me anything about the box and the speakers?

Re: Fane Speaker in maquis cabinet?
Hi Ole,
I have never heard of that brand, but the cabinet appears to be made of MDF, so it's nothing too special.
Have you removed the speakers yet? I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the front of the cones. They may have extended range "whizzer" cones.
15/73 is the date code (15th week of 1973). The entry in the "DATE" field, I suspect, is actually Fane's internal model number (122420). With a 12,000 gauss magnet, I'd be skeptical of the 50 watt rating.
Most importantly, how do they sound?
Dave

Re: Fane Speaker in maquis cabinet?
hi dave,
thanks for your infos.
i just had a look to the cones, they don`t have the extended whizzer ones.
They sound very tight and not with to much highs like a vintage 30. How to say? for my ears a very warm midrange tone, how i like it.
But it`s already some time ago i played this cabinet, i think i will try it out next rehearsal.
I have also another set of speaker by a cabinet named "nice" in the front, they look similar like the fane ones with the aluminium cone, but there is no brand on it, just a couple of numbers. They have a lot more high mids but also very "open" sound, not compressed like the fane. Any idea what that could be?
Added some photos to the album unknown speaker:
