Another HIWATT Fane

Snagged another...


In transit, should be here in a couple of days from Vancouver...
(Shipping was cheaper than the gas to go pick it up, and I avoided another "border inquisition!" )

Reportedly from '76 and looks to be a stamped frame.
Hopefully it'll be a fine companion to the old '71 cast frame!

Looks similar to the ones in Clayton's "Gin Blossoms" cab - which sound fantastic.

It arrived today in one piece (the guy screwed it to a piece of plywood for protection) and it looks good! No time to try it out tonight, or take pics.

It's a model 122231, date stamped 46/76, 15 ohm, stamped frame. I'm assuming it's a 14,000 flux density model, same as my old 122231?

The cone looks original (not sure about the dust cap - pics might tell more) and it's an 010 003. I forget, is that a Pulsonic number?

If it weren't for the solder on the terminals you could almost call it NOS by the looks.

There's a noticeable difference in weight between the 14,000 and 17,000 gauss magnets. If you're not feeling it, they're both 14,000.

I've wondered that myself, but have never found confirmation that Fane used Pulsonic. In any case, I've got those on some of my Fanes and they're keepers. Think ya done good!

All of the 122231's were 14,000 gauss, fane stopped using the stickers on the stamped frames.

Yeah, it seems to be about the same weight as the old-timer 122231. Should be a good match. I'll put the Fanes on top, Thames on the bottom.

The Gin Blossoms cab has the 17,000 gauss Fanes, right?

I've wondered that myself, but have never found confirmation that Fane used Pulsonic.

According to the data I've seen from Scumback, the "holy grail" Greenbacks used either the 102 003 (75hz lead) Pulsonic cones, or the 102 014 (55hz bass).

So my guess is that 010 003 is a Pulsonic cone. Interesting, the '71 122231 has a 1021/15 cone code. Hmmm...

The cone seems to have a higher "pitch" when tapping on it, compared to the '71. More like my Thames.
