too much icepick in the eardrum mod suggested?

Post by tungsthoriated »

proud owner off an dr-103 i've got one trouble although.
mid and treble and presence when dimed , or even at noon makes the amp to sound very trebly.
sometime on certain notes (c and d on the b strings around 13th and 15th fret) are almost painfull for me.
it's like having an icepick drilling my eardrum.
my dr103 is a late 70's with 2input only and got the 47nFcapacitor at the cathode of V3A.
does the late 60's ( without the 47nF ) sound better,less trebly ? :)
it"s a pity because it's when the mids are up i catch a certain growl.

should i remove this capacitor ? does anyone have done this mod ?
is there any mods to tame this ice picking high mid/treble?

thanks for the answer

Are you using the Normal or Bright inputs? I use the Normal all the time, because I find the other too bright.

What speakers are you using?

What preamp valves/tubes are in the amp?

HI-TONE, when only the best will do.
