Maybe we have a bit of confusion over language here, US and UK.
As a bystander I dont think dr H's reply was particularly polite to a new member. Lash up over here (UK) means something tied together with string that wont last. Clearly this amp will, in what ever guise it eventually finds itself. Maybe it means something different across the pond.
The reference to Specsavers was also lost on our overseas cousins. Here, it is a joke. Specsavers is a chain of opticians who have been advertising with short funny films (a shepherd shearing his sheepdog was one) followed by the line "should have gone to Specsavers" So any reference to them is meant as a joke. Although I acknowledge our humour seems to differ somewhat.
No, its not 100% original in all respects, but who cares? Nice that someone can identify what it is, and the obvious question would be is it worth putting it back to original?
Whether or not the valves are originalto the amp is irrelevant, they are Mullards which are more sought after than something chinese or russian (and apparently they test out ok).
Cant see why the chassis plate isn't original, the fact that it has been moved to one side to make room for a switch shows a bit of care was taken, at least it wasnt thrown away. There was a photo on here recently of an amp plate that was left in place and had 2 holes drilled through it for sockets - which would you prefer? And to go to the trouble of making a new faceplate in the same style shows a bit of attention to detail.
So, interesting to see, not worth big bucks either in the UK or the US, but the guy got it cheap apparently anyway. Hopefully Mark has added the info to the database.
