Looking at picking one up. Partridge transformers, handwired with fane, and comes with road case.

Price is $1900. Is that fair?

I play rock, jam, Americana, and electric folk. How will this amp fare?

I've always owned twins and deluxe reverbs, matchless chieftains, and mesa lone stars.

I am worried it may be too loud but usually prefer a clean platform.

Don't worry. A 50 watt Hiwatt is an extremely punchy, yet manageable amp. Quite different from the Matchless and Mesa's gain structure, but one can get those sounds with the proper pedals.

I used a silverface Twin Reverb on the road for over a decade. Now, when I do play out, it's through a 1980 SA112 (the one in my avatar) and a HI-TONE 1x12 cab (not the one in my avatar).

What model Fane is in the amp in question? May have to be careful with the power, unless it's one of the beefier models.

Do these still sound decent at lower volumes and $1,900 US a good price for one in very good shape with a road case. Ebay is tough because a lot are reissues.

That's not much help. Need to know the numbers stamped on the frame (typically, 122### and a date code).

Yes, they sound great at lower volumes. Very hi-fidelity. One can also play with the tubes in the V1 and V4/PI slots to adjust gain versus headroom. I run a 5751 in my V1 and a CV4024 (ECC81) in V4.

I did a quick search on ebay and didn't see one fitting your description. Dr.Hiwatt has a better grasp on current market conditions than I. If it means anything, I'd probably part with mine for that kind of money...

Here are some pics. I'm either going with a hiwatt or matchless chieftain or dc30. I've had a chieftain before and it was great. Looking for amp that has chime and depth and can go from folk rock to the stones. Something versatile.

$1900 is the price on the Hiwatt with road case.

It is hard to say without seeing the wiring/circuitry.
But the rest of it looks like it has had an easy life.
it should be a good choice and a decent price.
