SA 212 - AP ?

Post by jujub »

Hello,

Still got my 74' SA212 , I was thinking tu use it with my piano in reahrsal with it...

Do the fane are All purpose in this amp or it is dangerous for them?

Same question with BASS..?

Thanks :D

I would be very cautious when using extended frequencies (especially, notes lower than a guitar's low E...or dropped D ) through vintage Hiwatt Fanes.

An open backed combo cab won't yield ideal Bass performance, in any case. But, if this is strictly for (reasonable) rehearsal volumes, you might be o.k..

I wired a speaker jack in an unused power tube hole in my SA212 - primarily to facilitate ease of chassis removal. But, it would also allow powering an external cabinet in lieu of the internal speakers.

My SA212 was in no way pristine, so I was not concerned about impacting vintage value. If yours is original, this may not be desireable.

Thanks I've thought about it...

Mine is completely original down to mullard tube (still in great shape).

Should replace speakers ?

If your SA212 is totally original, I'd suggest leaving everything as-is.

After my previous post, I thought more about it and should have stated that many bass players ran through HIWATT cabs loaded with the same Fanes as are likely in your SA212. So - when they were fresh, bass and piano should have posed no problem.

Age, however, impacts performance (I'm speaking purely of vintage speakers, of course ;) ) and I typically apply a safety factor when powering possibly dried cones and surrounds.

How loud are your rehearsals?
