Can anyone tell me the production date of this Hiwatt.

Post by equate »

I am looking into buying a vintage Hiwatt DR103 and want to get the best deal possible. I have recieved some pics and believe the DR103 to be an early 70's model (72 or 73?). The seller wants $1500. He is also out of state, but claims the amp to be in good working order with minimal cosmetic challenge (the pictures give me some idea, it looks dirty but intact). I would like input from others with more experience in these matters. The back label says Type - AP, Model DR103, Serial # 2506. I have included all the pics the seller sent to me. I appreciate any input.

Thanks Dr. HIWATT. I don't know if this individual knows much about this amp although he seems to be asking close to the going price for a DR103 in good condition. He couldn't tell me anything other than, it powers up and the tubes all work good. I will try to see if I can get him to remove the power amp from the case so that the wiring, circuit board and transformers can be properly viewed. I also want to see the front of the amp to evaluate the cosmetic condition but I still haven't recieved any.

Best Regards,
Justin

$1500 is a steal.
In mint condtion those are bringing over $2500.

I have heard of early 70's DR103s in mint condition selling for more than $3000, but this one doesn't look mint based on the pics I have seen (although it may have been left in storage for a long time based on the photos and other 70's vintage equipment this individual is selling, in which case a good scrub on the tolex and some compressed air on the circuitry might have this thing looking good as new). I just asked him to provide me with some more pics, and if it is all original (i.e. partridge transformers and mil spec wiring) I plan on buying it. I just hope he knows how to pack the head because it is coming from about 800 miles away.

Best Regards,
Justin
