DR201, serial 3302, custom 200

Post by ben louden »

i'm selling this amp to a guy in brooklyn for $1800 and a used bogner shiva 1x12. the hiwatt is getting a health checkup by my amp guru and he's putting kt77s in it. it came with kt88s, 5 years ago i had it biased for el34s. they were already used, mixed bag of gt, jj and sovteks, it sounded great, ripped heads off and broke up to that sweet sweetness. i don't think i was ever able to get it past half mast on the master volume. when it has the kt88s it would run bass, guitar and vocals at the same time and never break-up or lose power (it was a 60s era beatles cover band). this amp is an amazing workhorse, but i have travelling to do and some serious gig hauling in the future. he's my only amp, i hate to give him up, but i can't afford a cab, and my back... well. any thoughts?

Hi Ben,

Welcome to the VHC Forum!

On the surface, yours sounds like a fair transaction. Before I owned a DR201, I questioned the value of a 200 watt guitar head. No more! As you noted, those things have headroom to spare. Big, choir-of-angels sound (mine's a KT88 model, too). Are you sure you're not going to miss it ;) ?

...Hey! I played that song when it was new...

i'm really gonna miss it. once i settle down again, i'll have to find another one. but for now i need to travel and play too. the amp and a cab to go with it just don't fit in the car with drums and bass gear too. gotta pare down. cool. i 'm happy to know no one's really getting ripped off, at least in your eyes.
