Hi Doc! Since we have rather similar DR201s, can you please tell me what are the values of the 6 inner mounted filter capacitors in our amps? And which brand you recommend should I ever need to replace my old ones?
Thank you.

Re: Question for the doctor
I wish I still had it! I had to sell it about a year ago.
but it had:
One 50uf+50uf
five 100uf+100uf
I used JJ's back when I recapped it as they were the easiest for me to find. They are OK. I believe I got them from Eurotubes.com
Antique Electronic supply has them and they have F&T's in those values as well.
I guess that Vintage HIWATT Restorations should carry the 100+100s??????? I will have to put that on the to do list!

Re: Question for the doctor
I'm sorry to hear that you had to sell it...But I guess you must have kept at least one other Hiwatt, huh?
Many thanks for the info, Doc! I've had good previous experiences with F&T in Marshalls, so I'd like to stick to those if possible. Please let me know if/when VHR will carry the 100+100.

Re: Question for the doctor
Yeah, I have a few HIWATTs!
I am looking for another KT88 DR201
and of course always looking for a DR405.
I will certainly get in the 100+100's
We will just put together a DR201 Re-Cap kit!

Re: Question for the doctor
Also Doc, can you tell me if your DR201 headcase had a thin metal (tin or aluminum or w/e) sheet (some call it a "Faraday shield") nailed or stapled right beneath where the amp chassis is bolted? Mine doesn't have one and I'm wondering if this is something that should be added.

Re: Question for the doctor
Stepping in for the good Doctor: Yes, your amp should have a shield. Most of my Hiwatts had them sort of glued down. After a couple of chassis removals, they came loose. I suppose someone got tired of trying to line up the extra holes and got rid of your shield.ThunderOne wrote:Mine doesn't have one and I'm wondering if this is something that should be added.
It doesn't have to be much, but should seal off the entire chassis.

Re: Question for the doctor
I found a small roll of sheet aluminum (used for roofing) at Home Depot. Cut it to fit with a utility knife and used a little silicon adhesive to hold it in place. Just like the OEM shielding.
