'77 or '78 DR103 on eBay
As a newbie to vintage Hiwatts, I'm very interested in your opinions on a DR103 I found on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HIWATT-DR103-Guitar ... 240%3A1318
Is this a head that will give me that classic clean chimey Hiwatt sound with a bit of a bite if needed?
Thanks in advance helping a guy trying to find his first vintage Hiwatt!

Yes, it will get that sound.
It looks pretty nice too! I didn't see any issues with a quick once over. It looks like the Early 1977 that I mentioned in the email.
Good Luck!

A quick update (if anyone is interested)
I won this '77 DR103 Hiwatt two weeks ago and just picked it up yesterday. ... whoo-hoo!
Of course, the first thing I did was turn it up. \m/ \m/ Not sure if my neighbors are very happy with me now.
It sounds great. I'm working dialing in my tone.

I just saw your post. ... Sorry bro. Was I bidding against you?
I love this amp! Even my wife (who is not even close to being an amp aficionado) could tell the improvement in tone when I play. Interestingly enough, the guy who sold me the amp wanted it to go to a good home.
I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm thinking of buy another vintage Hiwatt. .... Just don't tell my wife.

The Vintage HIWATT bug strikes again!
You should try to make it to the Convention! It sounds like you will fit right in!

I'm seriously considering how to make it to this year's convention. It does sound very interesting and looks to be a lot of fun. ... Hopefully, I'll see you there this year. I'd be very interested in how others set their tones.Dr.HIWATT wrote:You should try to make it to the Convention! It sounds like you will fit right in!
Do you guys ever do any kind of "blind fold" sound tests/reviews?

Re: '77 or '78 DR103 on eBay
We have done different "taste tests" but noone was actually blindfolded.....
We could always have the Amp behind the curtain. Switch out different amps through the same cab with the same guitar, etc.....

I think something like that would be really interesting. ... I know I tend to hear what I'm told I'm hearing. I'd be curious to know how discerning my ears really are!Dr.HIWATT wrote:We have done different "taste tests" but noone was actually blindfolded.....

Noone blind folded?! ... Oh, you mean it's not "that" kindof convention?
