I need to re-wire a cab

What wires do I need? Where do I find them?

I picked up a '73 SE4122 cab a couple months ago. A previous owner did a messy wiring job. I can't even discern if it's wired correctly. The speakers are in good shape and the cab sounds pleasant at low volume, but I want to re-wire before I crank it. My other Hiwatt cabs sounds great, so I'm eager to compare.

I'll say ! Get that snarled junk out of there and start over.

Any good 18 gauge, insulated, braided wire will do (and will be as good, if not better than original equipment). I thought Mark Huss had a wiring graphic on his Hiwatt site, but can't seem to find it now. If I stumble across it, I'll return and post.

For the record, the posted graphic reflects the "factory original" wiring, with two conductors inside a sheath. The black conductor that dances around the cab can be replaced by a straight run down to the speaker below.

I used some blue & black 16 ga. stranded hookup wire I got at HD. The originals used 18 ga. (AFAIK)... but supposedly 16 ga. gives the "best tone."

I don't know where Doc gets his vinyl sleeving... I used some black heat shrink to approximate the OEM condition.

Thank you for the responses. I will try Home Depot in the next couple days as I am hoping to punch some air with these cast back Fanes this weekend.

I am already familiar with the Huss schematic, but I'm glad to see it posted again as it may help others who find this thread.

Re-wiring was completed on 11/13. The cab now sounds like my other '73 SE4122. Both of 'em have a bigger sound compared to '76 cab with smaller magnets. I couldn't find black and blue 16 or 18 gage insulated wire, so I used transparent 16 gage speaker wire.
