newer fanes
I know this is the vintage Fane section, but I wanted to report back with an update on the Fane Medusa 150 and AXA pairs that I put in my SE4123 cabinet. I am using this as the bottom cabinet with a front loader LA412 on top, so I don't really hear the bottom cabinet. I ab'd the two cabinets today after I biased my DR504 with some new tubes. The LA412 has Fane stamped frame speakers that came stock, I can't remember what the model is, but I think they are 75 watters. The LA412 is a little bright, but sounds really good, that's why I wanted to load the SE4123 with some Fanes. The SE4123 is a bit darker, but has a really cool complexity of tone with the two different speaker types. I put a mic on each speaker and listened to them individually in another room. The AXA has a really cool complex tone and breakup and the Medusa 150 is more neutral sounding with a big tight bottom end. They compliment each other really nicely and I don't think the higher sensitivity of the Medusa 150 makes it any louder than the AXA because the AXA his more high end emphasis. Phil
Re: newer fanes
I love mixing speakers. I'm looking forward to hearing two original DR-Fs and two "cast frame" DR-Fs in the same cabinet.
