Well for the tech,I was thinking of someone like you Mark that
knows where he's going or someone else here one the forum
that has the knowledge.

And Doc !...........the reason for the SC-R instead of the SC-120 is that
I can get it for cheap ,the SC120 are between $800 and $1100.

I'm not a tech so if you say that it is too crowdy in the SC-R for this mod,
I will wait .

Another question if it can be done is does
the original pots stays or they have to
be changed ?

I agree, the 50 watt chassis is a strange multilevel affair, and would be a bit tight.

Some but not all of the pots would need to be replaced.

This week ,I'm getting the Sound City 50R and I want to transfer
everything in a VHR chassis and head box for a JP 50 .

The Sound City Head box ,face plates and knobs are in very good condition so I will
sell it to someone who needs it to restore his SC .

What I want to know is are the Partridge in the SC ok for the JP 50 ,
and also what do I need to order extra to build the amp ,I know I will
need a chassis, knobs ,pots, head box ,but what else do I need.

Could the half power switch be done with those 50 watt Partridge?

Last question is who can build the amp for me ,it would take a lot less time for a person like Mark,Doc and Dave make the build than sending the amp to a Marshall tech here near my place that would try to understand and lurn about Hiwatt
so a lot of time and money consuming here.

Best Regards!........................Louis

Here are my thoughts:

Sell the Sound City 50R. Buy a VHR JP30 kit and have someone else build it or buy it pre-built if VHR provides that option. Check with Mark, mikhailwatt, or gldtp99...maybe others....they are busy gentlemen but possibly willing and certainly capable of doing a JP 30 build. Otherwise, I can do it for low labor cost.

Someone could salvage some parts from a SC50 for 'JP 50' but it would be more of a hassle on the builder compared to a VHR kit. The VHR kit option might be cheaper too since you could obtain all the parts in one kit which includes items that are not sold individually and you get payment for selling SC 50R which is still worth something before you rip it apart.

Are the Partridge inside a SC50 ,the same as a Custom 50 ?

no, they are different models. Although they could probably be used with some tweaking. beyond my skills.

For what it's worth, I put a SC 120 Partridge OT into one of the Royal amp JP clones for a friend, and it did not sound better than the original Heyboer.

I put the removed Heyboer back into the SC and, oddly, the SC put out more clean power then it did before!

This Mark 4 Sound City 50+ on eBay is raking in some good coin...more than I would have expected. If it had great vintage glass, then I'd understand but the description does not indicate that. Yes, sell that 50R !!!

That's interesting. I have two Sound City 120 amps right now, one is louder than my 4-hole DR103 and the other is quieter than my DR103. The transformers aren't the only difference though. The louder one was converted to Hiwatt wiring and re-capped already, and the quieter other one is Mark 4 active preamp original and not yet re-capped...has a lot less headroom but sweet gain tones. We'll see what happens after I finish working on it.
