Four JJ 6V6 tubes. Part of the design rationale for this was the fact I really like "four bangers," they seem to me to have more complexity and depth then two-by output sections. As mentioned, you can also use a pair of almost any octal tubes that have the standard EL34 footprint.
Sounds very good! You can't expect to nail the tone spot on with an open-back 1x12 with a Fane and 6V6s in place of EL34s, but I understand that's not what this amp sets out to do. Regardless of that, I can hear just the right level of gain and rawness. I'm sure it'll really shine with a closed-back 4x12!

I hope to have one to perform with live, on top of my HI-TONE 2x12.
When we ran the prototype through a 4x12, we were pleased. It was very interesting to note how much the different power tube options changed the sound.
These clips were recorded using a little Tascam DR-07 with its built-in mikes, so that certainly contributes to the sound character to some extent (compared to the full rig and normal mikes I have used in the past).
That is a good question. The HI-TONE prebuilt DR307 will have predominately NOS mustards. I suppose if your ears are influenced by MOJO, there may be a larger effect than those ears that don't believe in MOJO.

HI! HI!........I was born in MOJO!!
and you dont want to know how much that MOJO cost me
over the past ten years or so !!!
To get back with the subject !.............this is taking things one step beyond !!
I've done some Mustard/SOZO swapping in the Hiwatt-converted SC amp. There isn't much difference between SOZO and NOS Mustards. The difference is noticeable between well used Mustards and new SOZO. The caps 'burn-in' over time, for lack of a better term, making the tone subtly warmer and more loose.
I notice the JP has a 22uF on the preamp board. In my own clone I have a much smaller cap, something like 4.7uF, and I thought the originals also used a small value cap here. I realize this may not have been intended as a pure "clone" amp, but I'm still curious as to why this value?
I also wonder which value the inside preamp cap is - 16+16, 16+32 or 32+32?
this prototype pictured used a 22uf when the pic was taken as that was the closest I had available at the time. The amp ships with a 10uf.
16+32 uf is the can used.
