ha yes!

we all do it even the mighty doc!

i did it earlier this yr, or was it last yr, anyway. having being burnt a few times in the past i vowed never to buy amps that had a few problems or old names that didnt have a good rep or well known for a good resale value.
out of curiosity (thats what'll get ya!) i paid 100quid for an old non running bird golden eagle amp of this fella off a pic off the internet. went to meet him, in a town half way between us. he had his whole bloody family in the car with him. to be honest he was a nice guy. he opened his boot an there was this amp, and i knew when i looked at it (no power lead attached, non original cloth, it smelt of cheap perfume! which when i got the back when i got home there was a load of talc in the back! it didnt have original 3x eliptical speakers, instead 1 modern 10" goodmans, and i'm sure there was a few other things) but i took 1 look at the pleading eyes of his wife of please take me home, i'm cold so r the kids lets just get out of here, i took pity, paid him the full amount thinking ah i'll get this home and mess about with it and get it running.
no bloody chance it sat in the amp room for like a yr or something, stinking the place out with old spice! until i got round to selling it to a guy for the same price i paid for it.
i was upfront with him and said i'm selling it for what i paid for it i just want me money back, heres what i can see needs doing, have a blast. he was fine with it all as he's restored a couple of them before, and off he went.
glad i got rid of that 1!

I finally had decent enough weather to give it a serious clean up.
Hot soapy water and a scrubbing, then a warm sun bath.

once the grime and filth were removed, it became clear that this cab did originally have a serial tag.

Wow, this is a really cool cab, rock 'n' roll !! 8)

What speakers did you put inside?

Btw, if I may post a question in this thread ... I have a 70's SE4122 that was painted black (the whole cab) and when I tried to clean it with warm water and soap it didn't do nothing. Can I use cleaning alcohol or somethin strong (acetone may be too much?) to clean it but not damage the tolex?

Thanks,
I have yet to load it. I will probably install the new HI-TONE model yet to be released or the DR-F.
I don't have much use for old speakers, as I have mentioned several times. I would much rather them die on someone else's hands than mine.

Once a cab has been painted, it is usually permanent. I do not know of a chemical that will strip paint without damaging the vinyl.
