Hi,

I'm new here and not sure if I post at the right place, please tell me if I'm wrong.

Here is my story and my questions :

I bought a wonderful DR103 from '71 some years ago and was lucky enough to find a Hiwatt 4x12 with Simm-Watts FANE which were in face 122231 FANEs... So I got the perfect Gilmour-in-a-big-box gear... I had tons of effects : '86 export version of the Tube Driver, Fuzz Face, ... My homemade pedal board was then just enormous...

Sadly, I always wanted to have a Plexi so sold everything to a guy that plays in a Pink Floyd cover band...

Some years after, I never could forget this amp + cab sounds, especially with the Green Muff, it was just amazing !!! :D

Then, I bought a SA212 from '75 but sold it...

Some weeks ago, I was lucky enough to buy a DR504 from '72 totally unmodified. The cosmetics is not good but the electronics is just 100% original... I just recaped it and change the Sovtek power tubes for Silvania Wing =C=...

So I'm back there and really happy ! :D :D :D

Now, I'd like to play it through a 2x12 cab. I got to mention that I'm more into crunch tones than Gilmour cleans with effects. I'm really into guitar-into-amp-and-that's-all

I play mainly Strats & Les Paul. Lately, I'm really into classic rock territory and more into Who's humbuckers crunch than Gilmour's single coil into effects tone.

I don't now what to do for the speakers. Vintage FANEs seem really hard to find now (Why did I sell the 122231s ?) and I just don't now what to buy ?

1/ VHR speakers but sadly, the shipping cost for the cab is really too high for us europeans and I don't blame anyone of course.
2/ Reeves VP is the same.
3/ Weber Thames
4/ Weber FC-12
5/ ... ?

Which speakers would you consider ?

Thanks to you for your help & support !

Cheers,
Fabien

Fabien,

Let's reverse the question and ask first; what is available to you, affordably, in Europe? From that selection, we might be able to narrow down options.

Hello Dave,

In fact, everything except speakers that got to be sold with cabinet from US means : VHR & Reeves.

Every other brands like Weber, Eminence, FANE, etc... are all available...

Thank you :D

Check out the HI-TONE YouTube channel, we have clips up there with a few Eminence speakers as well as our own models.

Good idea! If Fabien is after a bit more crunch, maybe the C-Rex's?
