I have been offered a pair of these.

They have been reconed. I have no idea if these are any good, worth $150 each, be a good match for a Hiwatt.

Comments and suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks

Would be a good match for a Hiwatt IF the recone job is good. Can you get the cone codes from the seller? The stated price seems high in today's market, for a non-original cone. But, it's your call.

Ink stamp or chalk marks on the back side of the cones, indicating part number (and, usually, manufacturer). They can look like this:

Reconed code reduced.jpg

Need to know what cones were used by the reconer. Some parts are better than others.

It would in my book, although I'd still lobby for a more discounted price. But, that's just me ;) .

OK. Then these are definatley an option.

My other thought is a new Fane AXA12 alnico paired with a new medusa 100.

Are you familiar with the new Fanes? New or old?

Thanks

I run the new Fanes in several cabs and am quite happy with them. I use the the Medusa 100's in the bottom cab of my live rig. My recording cab has two AXA 12's and two Medusa 150's in it. I've also got a bassman cab I loaded with two AXA !2's that sounds awesome, but I haven't played it as much as the Hiwatt cabs yet. Phil

Does the 150W medusa not overpower the AXA? Is the AXA an alnico or ceramic?

Thanks

I may end up getting another recone due to the poor state of the solder tabs. Would weber be a good place to go for that?

The AXA's are alnico and seem to keep up nicely with the Medusa 150's. I talked to the dealer before I bought them and he assured me that it was a good combination that he uses. Phil

I've seen the combination before, and looks good. That combo just went on ebay for $400. I was pretty tempted.

Not sure if they'll recone vintage Fanes. Drop 'em an email and ask ( http://www.tedweber.com/recone/ ).

And, let us know what they say!
