12AU7 PI sub in DR103?

Post by maxschrek »

Forgive me if this is stupid or has been discussed before, but I read somewhere that switching the 12AT7 out for a 12AU7 is a good choice for bass.
Any truth to this?

Thanks!

Nope. That'd be way to much of a drop (from a gain factor of 60 to 19, with a 12AX7 having a gain factor of 100) and I doubt you'd be pleased with the results.

Might you be mixing up 12AT7/ECC81 in place of a 12AX7/ECC83 :? ?

Cool, thanks. Yes it's quite possible that I've gotten confused about what I read. This seems to happening with a lot more frequency!
