70's Fanes?

Hi Guys, new to the forum and I would really value your opinions on the below speakers please.
From the pictures I can see they are 16ohm 12", have a frame code of 8-79, 12503 and the seller thinks they are either 25 or 30W.
I have agreed to meet and pay £60 ($95) for them at the end of this week providing I can use them safely in my current Laney Cub Cab but have since discovered they were on ebay a week or so ago for £52 ($82) but they didn't sell....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-12-vintag ... 3cbd5f3347
2 Questions if I may:
1. Are they suitable for use in my Laney cub 12 head and cab (this currently has 2 x 12" 8ohm 50w Celestion Rockets in and the head has an 8ohm & 16ohm output options)
2. Am I paying too much?
Thanks
EDIT: Oversize pictures replaced with slideshow..

Your pics are too large to view
. The board usually inserts scroll bars when that happens but, not this time.
Can you resize them down and repost? Something in the 640x480 range is usually a good compromise between speed and detail.
Also, if you can post any cone codes that might be visible (often, near the voice coil on the back side of the cone), it'd help.
thanks,
Dave

P.S. Just looked at the auction pics. Strictly from a cosmetic perspective, the cones could be original. That's great. I've got a pair of low wattage Fanes from 1977 and they sound very good. One just has to be careful about overpowering them. I think your price is still fair - even if the auction price was better
.

Ooooops, sorry, my fault
The above (smaller pic!) should hopefully link to a slide show.

I'd still say they're reasonably priced at under $100 per pair. Doesn't hurt to ask if the seller will let them go for less, though.

Thank you very much Dave, very much appreciated.

Right, sorry for the late reply, my seller has just come back to me to say that the cone codes are 277 then an unknown digit..

Hmmm. Doesn't ring a bell.
I'd expect to see some other codes from that era. Granted, applying a flat stamp to a curved surface is challenging and the ink can flake off over time. But, the closest applicable code I can think of would be 1777. Any chance of getting a (macro setting) pic?

Hmm, So is there a chance he could be mistaking the first no 2 for a no 1 and the last no 7 could be missing / worn off perhaps..?

Could be. That's why it's nice to see pictures

Several late 1970's Fanes used 276 cones.
I have no idea about this particular low power speaker

Hi Iss,
I think you made the right decision. Even if you do not like them, you can sell them on for no loss. Told you you would get good advices here.
