Yeah... and I can imagine the reaction when they find out... and they probably will find out as they try to learn more about vintage Hiwatts. Unfortunately for them it would have been a lot wiser to do some research before forking out that much cash!

Lets see if they turn up on this forum sometime

I feel for them.!

There is a guy on the PP forum that has an MG fake CP103 #1095. It used to be a 1975-1976 DR112 PA head.

Damn Shame!

Clayton,

what do you make of the alleged serial #742? Surely, the serial # can't be right with '71 date code pots, but the rest of the amp looks fair enough to me for a '71-ish amp?

My best guess is that the amp was originally #1742.
This # would fit the age of the components and the HJ electronics build.

I own #743. It has 1969 dated components throughout.

That does makes sense. AFAIK, there are no photos of the late '69/early '70 batch of "The Who" amps. The first of these popped up in December '69 (can be seen on the London Coliseum part of the Live at Kilburn DVD), and Townshend has three of them at Leeds in February '70. Or do you know of any verified Who-labeled amps from before 1971?

I can't think of earlier pics, but maybe there are some????

#356 - I don't think was ever on stage, or at most rarely ever on stage. It was the Research and Development "guinea pig". I will see if I can find out more about this particular amp.
