Bulgin Power Socket

Post by TheAviator »

Help, my amp tech tells me that I cannot get my amp PAT tested with Bulgin power lead and that I would need to convert the amp to a modern IEC socket. Some venues insist that all the mains powered electrical equipment have a current PAT test certificates for insurance reasons. Anybody else come across this, not sure what the situation is on the other side of the pond. I need this amp as a working amp.

I'd heard there were restrictions on Bulgin connectors in the UK. We don't run into that here in the States.

If you want to preserve as much originality as possible, consider just having your tech disconnect the Bulgin and hardwire a lead through the hole at the far end of the chassis. My SA212 was hardwired like that from the factory, so there's precedent.

I haven't seen an IEC that fits without nipping away at the opening - and that's frowned upon in these parts  .

Thanks Dave, that's a good idea that I had'nt considered. At least it will preserve the amp.

Changing topic, I'm saving for a 50 watt Hi-tone kit but I have some questions. How close to the original do these amps sound? and how close are the output transformers to the original Partridge transformers? Do you ship to the UK?

Thanks again

Objectively speaking, very, very, very, VERY close :D .

The transformers Heyboer custom makes for us are the closest thing to original Partridges you're gonna get. We don't scrimp on the guts to save a few bucks (or pounds...or Pounds).

Dr.Hiwatt can answer that for certain. I know we've shipped kits to Europe before. We're at the mercy of the delivery companies, as far as rates go, and of the Customs of the Country of Entry as far as Import Fees.
