Looking for a good book...

Hello fellow HiWatt lovers, I am new to these boards and have been absorbing all the information I can about these amplifiers. I am anxious to build my own DR 504, but I currently don't feel like I have enough knowledge to complete the task. I was wondering if there was any good books out there that go through the basics of servicing your own tube amp up to building your own, I really want to have this all down before I start. I have seen a few different books out there but I thought I would just ask all the pros on this board to see what you guys thought. I am an a first year EE student in college so I do have some knowledge of circuit diagrams and stuff like that. Thanks a bunch.

Hopefully Mark Huss will touch on this, but I would check out your EE library! Mullard and Western Electric publications from the 1950's and 1960's should be loaded with good info.

Are any of your prof's very cool??? If you have one that you like, you might approach him and tell him about your desire to learn about Hollow State (electron tube) electronics. You might make a new friend and learn alot!

I have some books at home, I honestly can't say that they are great, but I will get the titles/authors and get back to you!

Almost all of the classics (and then some!) are online here:

Holy cow, Mark always has all of the answers! There are a lot of books on that web page, are there any in particular you would recommend? Thanks a bunch!

The "thinner" ones marked as good for beginners are a great place to start. The heavyweight tomes make for slow, dense reading, and are better as reference tools.

Awesome thanks, just in case anyone else is interested in some good reading, I found two books while snooping around at my university library. One is called Valve Amplifiers, and the other one is called Building Valve Amplifiers, both by Morgan Jones. I haven't read much in them so far but they seem like a pretty good read.
Thanks again

Those are the ones I have, but couldn't remember the titles.

Both excellent, and part of my personal library as well. :D
