I think Steve really believes what he says. To be honest, if you ignore the questionable fake Partridges and shady business dealings, the custom shop amps were pretty well built, and I'm sure he had some pride in the output during his time there.

I read it with as open a mind as I could muster; but I'm afraid I got to the end thinking he'd either kept his eyes blinkered to what was going on around him - or chose to take a blind eye to it. Just one example? Are we to assume that the bogus Hylight spec plates that we've all seen used on rehashed pseudo-vintage amps were made in a separate premises which no-one he worked with spoke about?

Yes, the generation of pseudo-Hiwatts under the MG umbrella got mostly good reviews, but AFAIK none of the music press were brave enough to "review" the other side of the outfit.

How do you start with a great amp, "design" it into a lesser product and have pride?

He was clever enough to post his propaganda on several sites and gets loads of attention.

Since his work and his colleagues have done nothing but damage the HIWATT name, he has no place on this forum.

I don't buy the rationale that, "top groups are using our gear so it must be good."

Not all good musicians are tech-heads, or even tone-heads for that matter.

He had a plug for one of his own amps - (guess what it was based on) - on PP, I let my feelings be known, but it appears to have been deleted - or moved to God knows where.

i read thru the whole thread and i can see both sides of the argument, to be honest theres prob more than 2!
is he doing a thinly vield ad for his amps?
did he actually do any of it? as some of the more skeptical members r saying.
he seems a nice enuf fella to me.
i think a lot of people on the gear page seem to be wrapped up in negative s**t man and not playing enuf music and spending to much time on the computer writing balls on forums!

also i think a lot of people have been burned and upset by mg or any of its other companys, not just hiwatts remember but vintage marshalls, guitars and anything else worth ripping off!
those guys were bad eggs, and still are. did anything come of the last lot of press this yr to do with them going to prison or did they get off with it? its just real unfortunate that they have the hiwatt name, and are actually probably still in business!

i got 1 of those studio / stage 2x12 combo's. that a few of em were talking about that he's made, dont really know the date. havnt bothered to find out but i reckon its about 4-8yrs old.
it has the blue fane alnicos in it, an it sounds great, reverbs good aswell.
the tolex to be honest is slightly on the thin side as it got nicked a couple of times at gigs before i could get it into a flight case.
but other than that its a great ac30ish/hiwatt amp!

i dunno i think people just need to get on with things! but the mg/hiwatt name is a hell of a drama, which at the end of the day if u've got some of the vintage stuff, i suppose only drives up the price.
U CANT BEAT A DR103 THRU AN SE4122 ON FULL TITS! BREAKOUT THE DEFAID!
