HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
I had previously thought I had some amazing FANES judging by what somone told me when they opened my SOUND CITY cab
I have just opened it for the first time
There is 1 sound city speaker
and 3 unidentified speakers just labeled 'Ok' and a date
any help identifying them would be great
Thanks

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
the sound city labelled speaker is a fane
the square magnet speakers appear to be Eminence or CTS speakers, maybe Old School Dave will add his expertise. His knowledge of speakers is impressive. Mine is pretty limited to old Fanes

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
Thanks a lot
any clue as to whether it's worth much, or anything at all on it's own?!
*edit* or is it worth keeping and putting in a single speaker cab for myself?

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
the single Fane is nothing terribly special or rare. Those were pretty common.
It could be nice with a low wattage amp.

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
Thanks a lot, love this forum, lots of knowledge and always treated well
A lovely place you have here
and lets face it, everything I have posted about has been total S**T and i hoped it would be amazing stuff
it's just not
Some other guitar/amp forums I've been shouted at for not being knowledgable and for owning cheap broken rubbish...

You're being too generous .Dr.HIWATT wrote: the square magnet speakers appear to be Eminence or CTS speakers, maybe Old School Dave will add his expertise. His knowledge of speakers is impressive.
Sorry for the delay. Was rustling a 26' U-Haul truck with Mighty Terraza in tow across the washboard known as our Interstate Highway System .
No codes at all on those speakers? 67 would be Eminence, 137 would be CTS.
I'd bank on Eminence. Orange and Sound City often shipped over empty cabs and the U.S. Distributer loaded in those square magnet jobs. They're nothing special, sorry to say. Worth what any working 12" speaker would be.

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
absolutely nothing, just a date...
shall i just assume they're eminense?

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
Hello again, I'm sorry to say I've been cheating on you with
vintageamps.com
I trust you guys, you've always answered quickly and as accurately as possible and been very nice
but
someone on vintage amps said...
'40 watt Magnesium frame Fane speakers. Those are The speakers you want with that cabinet. As long as the cones are correct, that cab should give you "the" Sound City and Hiwatt tone. Nice score...'
are they wrong... like very wrong, you guys say 'meh they're not owt especially good' he says 'nice score'
so who do I trust, I want to say you guys but I'd rather he was right because that means they're better haah
I trust you because you effectively said 'who knows, but this is the safest bet'
but I'm just double checking
I'm so sorry

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
That is why we started this forum.
Your 40w. fane with aluminum dust cap is the lone original speaker in that cab.
the 50w cast aluminum fane speakers model # 122/17 made for Sound City are closest to a HIWATT fane.
What you have isn't a bad speaker, just don't expect it to sound like a HIWATT fane. You may like it, just have realistic expectations from the beginning.

Re: HELP ME IDENTIFY THESE SPEAKERS
Were they aware that only ONE of the speakers in your cab was a Sound City Fane?JJAAHH.91 wrote: someone on vintage amps said...

I never said those weren't good speakers - they are. They're also susceptible to voice coil rub (just ask Dr.Hiwatt, who valiantly tried to rescue some of mine). IF it's an original cone and IF it's in good working order, you're 1/4 of the way to a decent quad.
I stand by my comments regarding the three square magnet Eminences in your cab.
Dave
