Dr. Hiwatt is in a super-sensitive Hiwatt operation at the moment. I took care of it - and learned something new in the process

Actually I was in a sensitive Vintage HIWATT operation! I just mentioned it in an email to you!
If that cab, was local to me and the speakers are in good working condition, I would pay his price without hesitation.
Beat or not, until you have heard one of those really pushing some air, you have no idea what you have been missing!.............reminds me of a doofus on another forum that is too good for an old HIWATT cab.

I don't think the price is out of line for what I have seen recently. I do think the market may soften a bit in future months with the economy causing problems for some.

If I could only strap that cab on the back of my Harley, I would be taking a road trip to Texas!

It was a lucky guess...but a high percentage one
!
I've got a nephew in the Dallas area, but I don't think that 4x12 would fit in his M3 any better than on your Harley.
"No paypal" and "will not ship" are obstacles. If the opening bid were closer to a grand, I'd consider putting more effort into it.

I guess when you consider the fact that most complete stacks are going for at least 3k, the price makes more sense now, how I wish I could hear one of these in action, if only I could make it to the convention this year, some one needs to put some sound bites online for those who could not make it, that way we all can enjoy! (some video would be nice too
)

If the seller were to ship the cab, he could have already sold it for $1500 B-I-N. Road Worn or not, those cabs sound incredible.
JC103 has mentioned recording this years convention, or atleast parts of it. I am on the fence, as I feel you need to experience the massive tones in person.

Agreed!

It'd take one heck of a recording (and playback) rig to capture the full sound of a Hiwatt. Nothing compares to standing in front of that flapping grill cloth
!

I don't doubt that in the slightest, everything sounds much better in person, it would still be cool to hear some of it though IMO
, I just wish I lived somewhere where I could find people into these amps, there isn't much going on out here in UT that I have been able to find. Anyway, if one of you guys where to buy that cab, would you re-tolex it or leave it as is? As far as the value of the cab is concerned would re-tolexing it hurt the value of the cab?

If the tolex looks good it wouldn't hurt the value of the cab in my opinion. I would probably leave it alone, unless I got so far caught up on all of my projects, that I had time to burn. IMO, "It looks like rock and roll"
I had the pleasure of speaking with JC103 for a while earlier this afternoon, and we are trying to record some parts of the convention for sure. Just how much???? We will just have to see how lucky we get! We are going to try!

I was thinking you might want to recover it to preserve the cabinet, but it does have a certain aesthetic appeal as is

I think we'll definitely try to get some of the taste test recorded with various amps and cabs as it's not too often you have a chance to hear so many different Hiwatt rigs in one place. As far as the experience goes... well the Doc is right, you need to come hear them for your self at the convention to really appreciate them!
