Impedance

Currently have two Fane Crescendos in a cab. I don't really want to keep using them for gigs so I want make another cab using Eminence Tonkers.

My question is that Tonkers come in different impedance's. Is there any difference in sound between an 8 ohm and a 16 ohm tonker. Which one should I buy?

Also what the best impedance to run a 1972 DR103 at, 4,8 or 16.... and what difference in sound etc. (assuming that you are using 4,8, and 16 Ohm speakers)

Just trying to decide which impedance speakers to buy and what impedance to run the Hiwatt. The cab will contain 2 Eminence Tonkers.

There should not be little to no audible difference between 8 ohm tonkers and 16 ohm tonkers.
Nor should there be between your amp set to 8 ohms (using two 16 ohm tonkers) or 16 ohms (using two 8 ohm tonkers)

just be sure you match the impedance of the amp and cab and enjoy!

Thanks Dr Hi-Tone, I thought so, just wanted to check with the experts.

For anybody interested, here is a demo of my Hiwatt.

+1

I typically prefer 16 ohm speakers because they allow more flexibility with multiple combinations (without getting the total load too low). Have read some posts where people claim one "sounds" better than the other, but my experience does not bear that out.

There are a lot of recommendations on this forum for the Eminence Tonker as a substitute for the Fane Crescendo. Can anybody tell me which Tonker sounds more like a Fane Crescendo, the Tonker or Tonkerlite? I own some Fane Crescendo's and love the sound of them, so I'm looking for the closest match.

Also what is the difference between the two Tonker types types in terms of tone?

Bump anybody,

I would really appreciate some help if anybody knows or has experience with these speakers. I'm waiting to push the button and buy some. I would prefer to buy the Hi-Tone speakers, they sound great on demo's I've heard, but as I live in the UK this is not an option.

the Tonker is closer to a Crescendo than a Tonker lite.

Thanks, in the end I found a couple of Hiwatt purple Fanes. Maybe buy the Tonkers next month just to see. If I do then I will record and compare the differences between the Fane Crescendo, Hiwatt purple Fanes and the Eminence Tonkers.
