Hi everyone

First post here, finally bought a vintage hiwatt 201.

I bought the amp for an amazing price, due to some unknown issues.

I got the amp, the back has a sticker saying the mains fuse should be 5amps but the tech page here says 10amp for 120v mains.

I checked he fuse and it was a 5.

I turned the amp on, let it warm up, and as soon as I flicked the standby the mains fuse blew.

I replaced it with another 5, tried again, and noticed during warmup that one of the el34 wasn't lighting up.

I will check that tube, but just wondering if it should be a 10amp in mains!?
That seems really high, and don't want to do further damage if 10 isn't correct.

Also, any idea, if that tube is good, what he issue could be? Resistor?

your tech is correct. 10A for use with 120v. 5A in the U.K. or Europe.

What the doc said, 10A for 120v.

1200 maximum watts of input power is not unreasonable when you consider a typical valve/tube class AB amp is about 30-40% efficient, and the amp can put out 400 watts or more at full clipping.

Are you actually running EL34-s in your DR201 or was that a typo ?

Jumping in here: the original DR201's ran 4 x KT88 power tubes. A later rendition (still a Hylight Hiwatt) ran 6 x EL34 instead.

Oh, right - I completely forgot about the EL-34 pwr'd 201's .
