Questions about my SA112

Hey everyone, I'm just joining this forum.

Based on the info I've seen here, my transformers are dated to '77, but the "tested" sticker on the chassis says '74. The serial number I think corresponds to '79. Can anyone clear this up for me? (sorry for the lead-obstruction on the Fane, and the stamp was real wet with ink, but i think it reads 24/70)

I'm guessing the screen resistors (?) were changed after that power tube caught fire or whatever happened. Is anything else a replacement part? Are those filter caps original? I assume they are, being UK made.

Do you guys suggest the bias pot mod? Any other mods I should research that you all favor?

I also just wanted to get more photos of these amps online - so here you go. No pics of the cabinet, but you know what it looks like.

Welcome to The HIWATT forum.

The transformers have 1978 date codes. the tested sticker reads July 12 '79
The stamp on the fane is either '78 or '79. The serial number is from '79

The caps are original.

The power tube sockets have been replaced.

if the bias is within normal limits, then I would leave it as is. if it runs too hot, then I would add and adjustable bias.

Definitely a sloppy ink day at Fane!

FYI - my 1980 SA112 came with a model 122918 Fane, just like yours - except the stamping on mine is much cleaner. Anyway, judging from the "9" in the model number, I'd say your date code is "24/79".

I have also had a "sloppy 9" T/S date on a '79 Hiwatt. So, all evidence supports Dr.HI-TONE's observations.

The only thing that strikes me as curious is to why the filter caps sat on the shelf so long...

DR probably got them for cheap.

combos didn't sell well, so the amp could have been assembled or mostly assembled in 1978 then sat for a while before being sold.
just a guess.
