Hi,

My first post on this forum that i follow and ready for a long time time.

I have just picked this cab with 2 Crescendos speakers.
I am not sure the cab is a real WEM and I am wondering if the Crescendos are 12A...

Starting by the cabinet.
It has a new tolex.
The logo seems glued / sticked on the grill cloth.
Under the wem grill cloth, another black "grill cloth" is there.
On the down right side, a "DUAL TWELVE" metal plate is fixed with 2 nails.
Dimensions are 76LX32lX56H (cm).
No wem plate on the back. Tolex of the back different that the one from the cab ("thinner"

Regarding the crescendos:
First one has a label which shows:
12A
2"
20000 Gauss
100W
8 Ohm
122326
I see on the cone 010 003 in white ink
No aluminium dust cap (!) - black dust cap but it seems someone put a new dust cap as there is a lot of "glue" not so "professionnaly" put on around the cap area....

Second one has a damaged label but i think i can read
a 12 A'
a 2"
Flux 2 last digits are 00
122326 (not sure about the last 6)
11/77 (not sure about the last 7)
I see on the cone 010 003 in white ink
No aluminium dust cap (!) - black dust cap but it seems someone put a new dust cap as there is a lot of "glue" not so "professionnaly" put on around the cap area....

Do you think these are real Crescendo 12A 122326?
Does the cone are orginal?
What are your thoughts regarding the dust cap? Do you think I should give the speakers to a -spam- in order to put back "Aluminum dust caps"? Any idea where i could find correct caps to retrofit these speakers?

What do you think about the cab?

A huge THANK to for feedbacks and support!!!!

Welcome!

You are fortunate to have found those speakers mounted inside a cabinet. Crescendos which have been shipped loose do not tend to fare well, due to their extremely heavy magnets and relatively fragile aluminum frames.

Dr. HI-TONE has seen more of these items than anyone I know, so I yield to his comments.

Pending his verdict, I would say they are "the" Crescendos and the cab, with the exception of its back panel, appears to be authentic.

Congrats! How do they sound?

Dave

The Crescendos do appear to be authentic 8 ohm versions.
I suspect the cab may be an imposter, but I don't know for sure.
Do they sound OK?
Any bad noises?

Hi,
Thanks for the answer.
Great to see that they are authentics.
I bought the cab with speakers 2 weeks ago near RENNES town in France.
The guy i bought it from is a french producer. He told that he used to go in UK 15 years ago to get some equipments.
He had in his studio a lot Selmer heads / Marshall / Bogner & cabinets among which this "WEM".

He said that he got this WEM loaded with Crescendos 12 years ago from a guy in UK.
So I do not know a lot more about the cab & the speakers.

The cab sounds great with a DR103. I do not hear bad noise.

I understand that 100% for the 12A speakers should have aluminium dust caps. Is it correct?
These ones are clearly not. Seems in black paper.

Do you think it would make sense to retroffit them back like at the origin, with aluminium caps.
What would be your recommendations?
Which alu dust caps i should buy?

Thanks a lot !
Alex

I must have overlooked the pic showing paper caps.
I have seen several of this model all with aluminum dust caps.
I would not try replacing them as you will almost certainly damage the cones.
Enjoy them for the time being and keep an eye out for some with aluminum dust caps.

Thanks all for your contributions & advices.

I have posted in parallel to the forum some questions on the WEM Face book pages and i got the evidences now that the cab is not genuine.
All the details are https://www.facebook.com/groups/4878641 ... on_generic

I am now contacting Hi Tone to order an Eclipse 4x12.. Safer... At least you know what you get and what you get is GREAT !
thanks again and have a good day!
