I did it - pulled the trigger and bought this puppy from the UK this morning:

Serial 4805 is coming home to me! Haven't seen a DR512 for sale ever and with the original mullard valves seems like a great deal.

I'll be selling my 78 2 hole DR103 to fund this one if anyone is interested...

I think buster has one... for valve testing purposes.

Congrats! You must have caught Dr. Hiwatt napping, or in the basement counting his HIWATTs. Or maybe his "electromagnet" is in the shop for repair.

I almost did it, but I have been swamped. and have a few other things in the works.

that is very clean. It will sound very good with a guitar..........exactly like a CP504!

Great amp!! Nice one Max!

I always wanted a 50 watter and now that I have my 100w clone I feel ok selling my 78 103 for the 73 512. I've never seen that head cover before with the blue piping, were they stock? I've always been a sucker for PA amps and weird rarities :)

Now I just have to make a custom SIX INPUT Y ADAPTOR!!!

Yep, that is the original cover. It alone is worth $150.

Congrats!

Welp, my 78 DR103 2 input sold last night to a local kid whose band is getting signed. He's going to record and tour with it and was in awe of the Hiwatt sound so I'm pretty sure he's going to treat it well. He's converting from a 30w Orange so this should be a big step in the right direction for what he's going towards. Wish I knew the serial off that amp but it was missing the serial plate when I got it. Should've been in the 12's I think. Great sounding amp, but gotta make room for the 73 PA! Got word from the seller that it'll be packed and on its way with tracking tomorrow. He's been shipping amps to the US since the 80's I guess and knows how to pack properly (thankfully!). Those XF2's will be safe. More when it arrives!

Anyone know whose initials were T and S? I'm guessing two people who were inspectors in the Kingston shop. #4805 50w has them on a tag on the side of the chassis:

and so does #6031 50w on Mark's site:

Yes, I suspect that in the early days, when only one or two people were doing the testing, the tester's initials weren't required. So T&S was enough.

4805 arrived safe and sound, an excellent packing job and fast shipping (1 week from the UK to CA). He sent two spare Bulgin plug/socket sets so I can make a few more power cables as I only have one Bulgin cord at the moment. It sounds fantastic! A little scratchy on the pots but some normal operation cleaned them up. The amp is quite clean sounding, when the master is cranked and preamp cranked it's just the right amount of clean crunch - very "who" sounding. A beautiful amp and I can't wait to build a 6-way Y adapter! I should plug a mic into it, I bet it sounds great for vocals as well.
