Phase Inverter - sonic differences?

According to mhuss.com (thanks & kudos again to "The Professor"):
-- The early Hylight 4-holers used a cathode-follower circuit to directly connect the last preamp stage to the PI.
-- The later 4-holers and all the 2-holers capacitively coupled the last preamp stage to the PI.
What are the sonic differences between the two? Inquiring minds want to know... we didn't get around to sampling/comparing the different circuits at the VHC.
