Hey guys. Does anyone have any helpful tips or words of wisdom when it comes to packing up a 4x12 cabinet for shipping?

Flight cases are nice ;) . Barring that, a 4x12 shipping box from a local music store works.

I once shipped 2 Fender Showman 4x12 cabs without either of the above. Laid an extra thick layer of cardboard against the grill cloth, then bubblewrapped the entire cab. Followed that up with good cardboard and lots and lots of packing tape. Both cabs made it to Texas in good shape.

Dave has it covered pretty well.

I usually go with a 4x12 box from (any generic brand) a music store. Usually you can get the cardboard corner pieces with the same box/music store trash.

I have used two large heavy garbage bags to keep most random moisture off the cab. One from the top down and the other from the bottom up. then wrap the seam with packing tape.

I place 1-2 layers of card board between the cab and box. I tend to double this for the grille.

Make sure to indicate "this side up" a face forward fall is hard on speakers.

The good thing about cabs is they are too darn heavy to be thrown about with reckless abandon!

I'm told that the Reeves cab made it all the way from Vancouver to Halifax unscathed. :D

-- Line6 4x12 cab shipping box procured from GC
-- 2" styrofoam board all around
-- 1/4" masonite board on the front side to protect the grille + speakers
-- nearly a full roll of duct tape to reinforce the box
-- two (2) border crossings

That it did. Thanks again Mike! It was two Line 6 boxes wasn't it? Or are their boxes just doubled inside generally?

Just one box, it was already double-thickness.
