Hey all, I'm new here and have been trying to figure out pricing on a 74 DR103 with matching cab.
Not sure if it's kosher to ask opinions on pricing or not so please feel free to school me either way.

Anyway the amp I'm looking at is a 74 DR103 with matching cab. Probably 8/10 condition. The biggest thing cosmetically is the grillcloth has a small dime sized hole and has sagged.

The amp has been gone through by a local respected tech. It was modified not sure why and what for but the normal channel had significantly less power than the bright channel. I'ts all been put back to stock. The mods were completely reversable. Still has the original caps and two are leaking which would need to be taken care of. If it bought it I'd to a full cap job myself.

Asking price is high 3K for the pair. Is that out of line? I've done alot of research on these but pricing seems to be all over the place.
My fall back is getting a Reeves for about half the price.

My biggest concern is that If I buy the 74 how much will the reversed mods (if any) affect it's value. I don't want to pay vintage price for an amp that has less than vintage value because of reversed mods.

high $3k's sounds kinda high unless it is really nice.

Unfortunately I can't get pics. Its at a local store on consignment. But I have seen the inside of the amp and the cab everything in the circuit looks correct from the pics I've seen on line. The speakers are all stock stamped frame fanes, and all the components are original. Cosmetically it's not mint, but it's very nice.

I'm thinking the price is kinda high but he is unwilling to move now that he's had it put back to stock. So minus the tax I'd have to pay, and what he's got to pay the store for the consignment he's probably netting about $3k which I would assume is a good retail value for a 74 halfstack.

Of course I've fallen hard for this amp, its the right year, and its the only one I've seen for sale in a long time.

A bit of Dime Store Wisdom; If it's worth it to YOU, it's worth it... That said, I agree with the good Dr. - it seems a bit high for a less than mint 100w half stack.

It does have good speakers (make sure they weren't reconed at some time) and, if the mods didn't result in additional holes being drilled, reversing them should not negatively impact value. Ask the Tech who did the work for an opinion. Also, take a look inside the chassis to make sure the original mustards haven't "walked off" .

Thanks guys, I took another look at it today and decided it was a bit too much for the condition / economy. I'm going to take advantage of a deal on a Reeves Custom 50 and see if that cures the jones.
