WOndering what the best way to ship a cab is..... Ive got a hot lead on a fella selling a HIWATT cab, that someone recovered, with non original speakers.....for 100 bucks.....He's in Cali....Im in Ontario Canada.
At least it may be a good candidate for a recover....or is anyone willing to have it shipped to them until a better plan can be figured out? I know thats a stretch....but its a hell of a deal. I'd even be willing to donate the speakers just to lighten it up for the border crossing.

I shipped many cabinets and the best way is to bubble wrap it first, then get some 1/2" foam or use peanuts topack the hell out of the thing and that is basically it. And make sure it is insured for damage....

Any Recomendations on Carriers? Usual Rate? Im unsure if USPS will ship it....Fedex?

I shipped a loaded 4x12 from Vancouver to Halifax via FedEx with no problems. I packed it really well, 2" of rigid foam board all around + 1/4" masonite board on the front side, all inside a double-thickness Line6 shipping box I got from a local GC.

I think it was going to be about $250+ (fully insured) to ship from Seattle. USPS won't ship anything over 70 lbs. Avoid UPS at all costs.

The answer is; "it depends". UPS and FedEx have differing limits on delivery to residential addresses. If you have a commercial location, you have more options. That's one reason why I have everything shipped to my office.

There's both a dimensional limit (width+height+depth) and a weight limit. The last time I checked, FedEx Ground would not deliver items weighing more than 75 pounds to residential addresses. A loaded Hiwatt cab plus packing usually tips the 100 pound mark and might measure 32" x 32" x 14" or 34" x 34" x 16", depending on the packing.

Shipping rates had gone WAY up with the price of oil. Strangely enough, they haven't come down as quickly . Both those companies have on-line estimators. Give them a try. I'm sure everyone has a horror story about each carrier. My personal experience leads me to prefer FedEx.

About 123 lbs. with a quad of Thames.

FedEx will ship overweight packages to residential addresses, but you pay an overweight surcharge. At least they did last year.

UPS can damage your amp head even when it's shipped in a road case inside a padded cardboard box.

That would most likely add up to over a million dollars cdn when all said and done, being that its recovered and loaded with non original speakers, Theres a guy up here with a cab serialed in the 8000's for 500 CDN, I'll take a run at him!
Even if he does only want 100 usd or B/O.....Anyone near Bakersfield CA ? I'll give you the info!!!
Would be a super project for someone closer.

Escalated shipping costs have killed a couple of deals for me. It's great to have the Internet to put buyer and seller together. Now, all we need is an economical method of freight.

Its a SE4123 serial is very low 8000's with celestions...
2xGM12-75 and
2x GM12-65
Should be able to snag for 600 shipped CDN....thats about 500 US.
Fairly good shape, Rear mount, so a late 70's Im sure.
Black Grillcloth.

Obviously, not the original speakers. The G12-65's are well regarded (especially among Marshall users), but there are mixed feelings about the 75's.

What's the condition of the vinyde and grill cloth? The price is probably reasonable, provided you like the speakers.

The vynide is good, a few dings...grillcloth is tight looking,no snags,undoubtedly original......Not too concearned with the cosmetics, as I play first...collect second!!! Character!!!

The speakers are the wildcard. If that cab were loaded with original Fanes, it'd easily be worth two to three times what the seller is asking. On the other hand, you can get a brand spanking new Reeves 4x12 loaded with Vintage Purples for a grand + shipping. I think you're safe, but carving off another $50-100 would make the deal better.
